The media have an immense power to create pictures in our heads such that our worldview, judgment and even attitude become influenced what the media project to us (Baran, 2010, p.9). The dependency theory of mass communication holds that the modern man is increasingly dependent on the mass media for information, education and entertainment and that the higher this dependence the higher the likely influence of the media on our minds (Agba, 2002, Baran, 2010, p.359). Among media forms that have commanded significant dependence among humans is musicals whose messages have served as a popular means of escape (entertainment) in the contemporary time. Therefore, whatever messages coming from these musicals become a real potential influence on the minds of humans that rely on them depending on how these human consumers perceive and interpret the messages. One important aspect of message of the contemporary musical culture is in the area of gender; its portrayal of women vis-a-vis men. This study focused on how the audience perceive this gender dimension of music communication with particular reference to the moving pictures that accompany musical productions.
